"Furthermore, we have even not to risk the journey alone; for the heroes of all time have gone before us; the labyrinth is thoroughly known; we have only to follow the thread of the hero-path. And where we had thought to find an abomination, we shall find a god; where we had thought to slay another, we shall slay ourselves; where we had thought to travel outward, we shall come to the center of our own existence; where we had thought to be alone, we shall be with all the world. " - Joseph Campbell"
My "Language Teacher" READING LIST . . .
I love reading books that challenge my thinking. Unfortunately, with lesson planning and grading, my normal schedule leaves little time to indulge in a book. It's a decadent afternoon that allows me to cozy up with a good read. In fact, while doing my graduate work, I wrote a renaissance-styled sonnet, "A un libro..." Reading is a guilty pleasure that I must make time to enjoy. Some of these books have been recommended to me. Others are books that I've read (or began to read) and have never had time to absorb or apply. Still others are books that speak to those areas that I want to improve or learn more about. I've even added some methods books that I wish had been written before I took my language methods course. There are even a few "Just for fun" reads that reflect my latest obsession or travel destination. I'm especially interested in those historical "people stories" that I hope will engage students. Perhaps some of my good reads will also refresh, renew and reenergize you!
